Excel charts data series in the order they appear in the worksheet. But, sometimes for presentation purposes you want them in a different order. I’ve known people to create two tables of data, one table to display and one to use as a chart source. You might have suspected as much, but there’s a much easier way to reorder bars and columns when they aren’t the way you want.
1. Select the chart.
2. On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data. The Select Data Source dialog opens.
3. Select the Legend Series you want to move to a different position, then click the Up or Down arrow at the top right of the Legend Series box to move it. Move additional data series if you need to.
4. Click Ok when you’re done.
